Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson is a highly regarded mixed martial artist and former kickboxing champion, best known for his striking prowess and unique fighting style. Born on February 11th 1983, in South Carolina, Thompson began training in martial arts at a young age, focusing primarily on karate. His background in point fighting and karate helped him develop exceptional footwork, speed, and precision, which would later become hallmarks of his MMA career. Thompson made his professional MMA debut in 2010 and quickly gained attention for his dynamic striking and unorthodox techniques. He fought in various promotions before he joined the UFC in 2012. Wonderboy’s UFC debut in 2012 was a notable success; he faced off against Dan Stittgen and won by a head kick knockout, thus officially announcing his arrival on the big stage.
Throughout his career, Thompson consistently showcased his skills with impressive performances, including victories over elite fighters such as Rory MacDonald and Vicente Luque, and fought on multiple cards with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.
